The New Year started with me breaking a vertebra falling on the ice! I am now in full swing getting ready for Dorset Art Weeks. It begins on 29th May, when the gallery and studio will be manned by some art lovers as I have an appointment I cannot miss. I will be there all the rest of the 16 days, so please come and see me and see my new paintings of the TREES around Shroton.

Bridport Art Society

I was invited to give a demonstration at Bridport Art Society. I have taken photos of the painting as I am now at Stage 3 and promised the group I would let them see how it is progressing. Out of interest I was about 2 hours painting it at Bridport and have spent a further 4 hours today hauling it back from the edge of destruction!! I am quite pleased with some of the negative shape work I have done today, and I have managed to get the Big Flower looking more in proportion. Very hard to judge under strip lighting and in front of an audience. The group was so welcoming and friendly I had a wonderful time. Thank you so much forasking me.

These pictures are taken with the artwork still taped to a board as they are not finished.

Trying New Techniques

I have been having a play with oils. Here is a garden of a friend on the Isle de Re:

I have also been experimenting with an idea I learnt from Mike Chaplin on his course in Norfolk. Wetting the paper so thoroughly it is “relaxed”, then using a solution of gum arabic shaving lovely jewel soft pastels on to the paper and use a sponge, fingers or a brush to work out the image. Very free and loose working, happy 5 year old!!:

At the moment I am just experimenting, but it’s a lovely way to work and free up.

I’ve had a really busy summer. I went on a course with Mike Chaplin of Water Colour challenge and tried landscapes for the first time in ages. I also bought some oils and have done some Brittany sea scapes. I shall down load when they are dry and I can move them!!

At the moment I have pictures in the Forum Cafe, Salisbury Street, in Blandford. I am shall up load some photos soon.

It’s nearly time to register for Dorset Art Week and so I shall be busy over the winter building up a new collection to show.

Forum Cafe Exhibition

I have several pictures in the Forum Cafe, Salisbury Street, Blandford until 19th October. Do go and have a great cup of coffee and have a look too. The Huckleberry Bookshop has also just moved to the same building.

Barnstaple Art Group Poppies

I have just completed 2 new Poppy pictures. The Barnstaple Art Group that saw both of these half finished may like to have a look! I am getting cards printed of Drift of Poppies. The Poppy interlaced with Kecksy is on its way to my agent in London. It will be for sale later in the year.

Wareham Centre Piece

I haven’t updated as had problems with sizing. Here is brand new picture centre piece at Wareham. I am about to spend shedloads of time on this and get it all up together again! Acanthus Gallery Exhibition going really well.

February News

It’s ages since I updated. BUT I have been busy. First of all the licensing work for cards, address labels, file covers, etc has been going well. All the sales so far have been in the USA. I sold several pictures over the Christmas period, people wanting a gift for Christmas. Since then I have been painting like mad to make up for all those sold! See my new daffodil and snowdrops pictures in Newly Painted Gallery.

I’ve been asked to do an Easter window exhibition at Forum Famers in Blandford for the month of April, and then Acanthus Gallery have invited me to do their Early Summer show in May and June. So it’s “get painting” time.

I have done a couple of demonstrations locally, and am due to do one in Dorchester in early march. I find these quite nerve racking as watercolour is so unpredictable.

I have some high quality prints of Poppies in Bessells Lane No2 about to hit the shelves! Almost A3 and Almost A4 size. They will be on sale in Blandford Forum Framers and Acanthus Gallery in Wareham. ( Or if you prefer telephone me at the house and come and collect from me).
